Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis

The program of study offered by Nexient and leading to an Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis is designed for individuals new to business analysis, professionals who work with business analysts and anyone involved in solution development.

To earn an Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis , you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete four courses within two years
  • Pass the final test at the end of each course with a minimum grade of 70%
  • Attend all in-class or eLearning sessions
Start by taking the following two mandatory courses:
BA10: Foundations of Business Analysis or eBA10E: Foundations of Business Analysis via eLearning
BA20: How to Gather and Document Requirements or eBA20E: How to Gather and Document Requirements via eLearning

Then take one of the following courses:
PM100: Project Management Overview
PM01: Managing Projects
PM11: Managing IT Projects

Take the final course from the following list:
BA85: Facilitation Techniques for Requirements Development
BA45: Process Modeling and Management
BA325: Use Case Modeling
BA35: Logical Data Modeling
BA60: Testing Techniques for Tracing and Validating Requirements or eBA60E: Testing Techniques for Tracing and Validating Requirements via eLearning
BA90: Strategic Enterprise Analysis

Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn an Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis awarded by the McMaster University Centre for Continuing Education.

Advanced Certificate of Completion in Business Analysis

The program of study offered by Nexient and leading to an Advanced Certificate of Completion in Business Analysis is a higher level of study for business analysts who need to develop the skills and competencies essential to determine product or system requirements and manage these requirements throughout the development life cycle.

To earn an Advanced Certificate of Completion in Business Analysis, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete seven courses, accounting for a minimum of 18 days of training, within four years. At least five must be taken from the Business Analysis core courses.
  • Pass the final test at the end of each course with a minimum grade of 70%
  • Attend all in-class or eLearning sessions
You must take at least five of the following core courses:
BA10: Foundations of Business Analysis or eBA10E: Foundations of Business Analysis via eLearning
BA20: How to Gather and Document User Requirements or eBA20E: How to Gather and Document User Requirements via eLearning
BA85: Facilitation Techniques for Requirements Development
BA45: Process Modeling and Management
BA325: Use Case Modeling
BA35: Logical Data Modeling
BA60: Testing Techniques for Tracing and Validating Requirements or eBA60E: Testing Techniques for Tracing and Validating Requirements via eLearning
BA90: Strategic Enterprise Analysis

You may take up to two elective courses from the following list:
PM100: Project Management Overview*
Project Management Core courses*
IT Project Management courses*
PM26: Negotiation Skills for Project Managers and Contract Managers
GRPWE100: Report and Proposal Writing

*PM100, PM01 or PM11 cannot be used in combination with each other.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn an Advanced Certificate of Completion in Business Analysis awarded by the McMaster University Centre for Continuing Education.

Transfer of Credits between Business Analysis and Project Management Certificates:

Students wishing to complete an Advanced Certificate of Completion in Business Analysis and a Master's Certificate in Project Management may apply up to two courses from the first to the second certificate.
