Business Analysis


Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis:

To earn an Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis , you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete four courses, as depicted in the chart below, within two years
  • Pass the final test at the end of each course with a minimum grade of 70%
  • Attend all in-class or eLearning sessions

Start by taking these two courses...

BA10: Introduction to Business Analysis

BA20e: How to Gather and Document Requirements

Then take one of the following courses...

PM100: Project Management Overview

PM01: Managing Projects

PM11: Managing IT Projects

The remaining course may be taken from the following list...

BA30: Logical and Process Modeling

BA40: Workflow Modeling

BA60: Introduction to Testing for Business Analysts

BA75: Business Object Oriented Modeling

BA80: Business Analysis for e-Business

BA320: Use Case Modeling for Business Analysts

Upon successful completion of the required courses, you will earn an Associate's Certificate in Business Analysis awarded by McMaster University Centre for Continuing Education applicable in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada) or by Nexient (applicable in Western Canada).


Advanced Certificate of Completion or Certificate of Program Completion in Business Analysis:

To earn an Advanced Certificate of Completion or Certificate of Program Completion in Business Analysis, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete seven courses, totaling a minimum of 19 days of training within three years. At least five of these must be taken from the Business Analysis Core courses. At least 13 days of the total 19 days of training must be within the Business Analysis curriculum.
  • Pass the final test at the end of each course with a minimum grade of 70%
  • Attend all in-class or eLearning sessions

BA10: Introduction to Business Analysis

BA20e: How to Gather and Document Requirements

BA30: Logical and Process Modeling

BA40: Workflow Modeling

PM100: Project Management Overview*

BA60: Introduction to Testing for Business Analysts

BA70: Introduction to Object Orientation for Business Analysts**

BA75: Business Object Oriented Modeling**

BA80: Business Analysis for e-Business

*You may substitute PM100 with PM01 or PM11
**You may only take one of BA70 or BA75

***If PM01 or PM11 is substituted for PM100, then you may only take one more PM course as an elective.


Upon successful completion of the required courses, you will earn an Advanced Certificate of Completion in Business Analysis awarded by McMaster University Centre for Continuing Education (applicable in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada) or a Certificate of Program Completion in Business Analysis awarded by Royal Roads University (applicable in Western Canada).

Transfer of Credits between Business Analysis and Project Management Certificates:

Students wishing to complete both an Advanced Certificate of Completion or Certificate of Program Completion in Business Analysis and a Master's Certificate in Project Management may apply up to two courses, totaling six days of training, from the first certificate to the second certificate.
